The most noticeable difference between the original NiteCore i4 and the upgraded version is the front face. The old yellow power bars have been replaced with a modern LCD screen and charging progress is now displayed in percentage along with green LED lights.
As with the original i4 , all you have to do is insert the 18650 battery into the slot and the new i4 will automatically detect and charge.
Compact and Compatible
The New Nitecore Intellicharger i4 is a compact device that can charge batteries that are 30mm to 69.3mm long, including flat top types. Super long batteries like some protected 26650 cells might not fit into the i4 bay.
The Nitecore Intellicharger i4 is compatible with IMR, Li-ion, LiFePO4, Ni-MH, and Ni-Cd batteries. It is capable of charging four batteries simultaneously.

The maximum charge current of the new i4 is now 1000mA per slot – which is double the capacity of the original i4 charger.
Active Current Distribution Technology
Active current distribution (ACD) technology enables dynamic distribution of charging power in the new i4 . Let’s say you are charging four batteries of different sizes. The smaller one will obviously charge faster. ACD technology automatically transfers all charging power to the bigger battery once the smaller cell is full.
The new Nitecore Intellicharger i4 is now compatible with 1.2V, 3.7V, 4.2V and 4.35V batteries. Press the “V” button to set the charging voltage for each slot.
IMR Battery Restoration
Press and hold the “C” and “V” buttons simultaneously to restore a depleted IMR battery.
Precise Charging Current Based on Battery Capacity
The new i4 automatically detects battery capacity and applies the appropriate charging current. For large capacity batteries like 18650 and 26650 types, press and hold the “C” button to quickly activate 1000mA fast charging.
Automatic detection of Non-Rechargeable Batteries
The new Intellicharger i4 will instantly detect a battery that is non-rechargeable and warn you through four flashing LED lights.
Intelligent Charge Mode Selection
Different batteries have different specs, which means their charging current and voltage requirements are different too. This is why you need an intelligent charger such as the Nitecore i2.
The Intellicharger is built with an integrated microprocessor that automatically identifies the type of battery inserted into the bay and selects the appropriate charging voltage and current. Once it detects battery type and battery status, the i4 will automatically apply CC, CV or -dV/dt charge mode.
Optimized for Ni-MH and Ni-Cd Batteries
The Nitecore i4 is optimized for Ni-MH and Ni-Cd batteries which are often used to power toys, digital cameras, portable music players, and other high-drain electronic devices that consume power quickly.
The -dV/dt charging program for Ni-MH and Ni-Cd batteries automatically detects battery status and determines the appropriate charging and termination voltage. This feature offers maximum power without the risk of overcharging.
Optimized for IMR Batteries
The Intellicharger is also popular among vapers who rely on IMR batteries for their mods and APVs.
With extremely low internal resistance, IMR batteries are susceptible to overcharging which could lead to safety issues when charged using regular Li-ion battery chargers. To address this problem, the Nitecore i4 incorporates an optimized IMR charging system that is able to monitor the entire charging process, ensuring that the end voltage is always within safe limits and ultimately helps extend battery life.
The new Nitecore i4 monitors the charging time of each battery. When the overall charging time exceeds 20 hours, the i4 will automatically stop charging and display a full charge status. This prevents possible overheat or explosion due to battery defect.

When all the LED lights flash simultaneously, it means that there is a problem with the battery. Usually this indicates reverse polarity which the Intellicharger automatically detects to prevent damage. If a battery is inserted incorrectly, the LED lights will flash quickly and “Err” will be displayed on the screen.
